Musculoskeletal Current Awareness February 2012

Clinical Librarian Service
Current Awareness Bulletin
Musculoskeletal
February 2012

1. New and Updated Cochrane Systematic Reviews:

For the full text of the Cochrane Systematic Reviews please click on the title. We have included the Author’s Conclusion so you can speedily see if a therapy change is indicated. Author’s Conclusions are taken directly from the Cochrane Website  and represent the work of the author.

Author’s conclusions: There is not enough evidence from the available RCTs to conclude that CPM reduces VTE after TKA. We cannot assess the effect of CPM on death because no such events occurred amongst the participants of these trials.

He ML, Xiao ZM, Lei M, Li TS, Wu H, Liao J. Continuous passive motion for preventing venous thromboembolism after total knee arthroplasty. Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews 2012, Issue 1.

Author’s conclusions: There is limited evidence from four small low-quality trials that the pronation method might be more effective and less painful than the supination method for manipulating pulled elbow in young children. We recommend that a high quality randomised trial be performed to strengthen the evidence.

Krul M, van der Wouden JC, van Suijlekom-Smit LWA, Koes BW. Manipulative interventions for reducing pulled elbow in young children. Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews 2012, Issue 1.

NICE have announced a three-year agreement which will provide all NHS staff who have an Athens password access to the latest online copies of the Lancet, as well as back copies from the last four years.
