2. New Cochrane Systematic Reviews from the Cochrane Library:

For the full text of the Cochrane Systematic Reviews please click on the title. We have included the Author’s Conclusion so you can speedily see if a therapy change is indicated. Author’s Conclusions are taken directly from the Cochrane Website  and represent the work of the author.

2) Autologous chondrocyte implantation for full thickness articular cartilage defects of the knee
Author’s conclusions: There is insufficient evidence to draw conclusions on the use of ACI for treating full thickness articular cartilage defects in the knee. Further good quality randomised controlled trials with long-term functional outcomes are required.

Vasiliadis HS, Wasiak J. Autologous chondrocyte implantation for full thickness articular cartilage defects of the knee. Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews 2010, Issue 10

3) Steroidal contraceptives: effect on bone fractures in women
Author’s conclusions: Whether steroidal contraceptives influence fracture risk cannot be determined from existing information. Many trials had small numbers of participants and some had large losses to follow up. Health care providers and women should consider the costs and benefits of these effective contraceptives. For example, injectable contraceptives and implants provide effective, long-term birth control yet do not involve a daily regimen. Progestin-only contraceptives are considered appropriate for women who should avoid estrogen due to medical conditions.
